Funding to improve accessibility, safety and comfort at Milburn House as COC Living continues a 60-year legacy of serving people with developmental disabilities
LIVONIA, MI, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — COC Living, a Livonia-based nonprofit that has supported people with developmental disabilities for more than 60 years, has received a $90,000 grant from the Margaret Dunning Foundation to support renovations and accessibility improvements at Milburn House, one of the organization’s licensed adult foster care homes in Livonia (19415 Milburn St, Livonia, MI 48152).
The grant will fund renovations designed around the needs of multiple residents who call Milburn House home. Planned improvements include the creation of a new accessible main bathroom with a roll-in shower, fold-down shower seat, and accessible fixtures, along with renovations to a second bathroom. Updates are also planned for the home’s laundry area, office space, and garage access.

60 Years of Creating Opportunity in the Community
Established in 1965, COC Living has spent six decades helping people with developmental disabilities live meaningful lives with greater independence and connection to their communities. Today, the organization provides housing services to approximately 75 people between the ages of 18 and 75 and owns or manages 15 locations across Livonia, Garden City, Plymouth, and Redford.
COC Living’s services extend well beyond housing. Staff provide individualized support based on each resident’s needs, including assistance with daily living, transportation, medical appointments, medication management, and community integration. Residents also participate in day and vocational programs, and some receive support with transportation to work and job coaching.
That commitment becomes increasingly important as residents age. Milburn House was constructed in 1957, and the renovation project was developed with accessibility, personal safety, and residents’ long-term needs in mind. The improvements are intended to help residents continue living comfortably in their home for years to come.
“COC Living has been part of Livonia for 60 years, and that history means a great deal to us,” Heath said. “Our residents are our neighbors. They shop here, work here, participate in community activities, and build relationships here. We want to make sure that these homes continue to support the lives they want to live.”
The project’s total estimated cost is $89,864.72, with the $90,000 grant from the Margaret Dunning Foundation supporting the planned renovations and accessibility improvements.

About the Margaret Dunning Foundation
The Margaret Dunning Foundation was founded by Margaret Dunning in 1997. Born in 1910 in Redford Township, Michigan, Dunning moved with her mother to Plymouth in the 1920s and became a successful businesswoman, philanthropist and civic booster. She was a major supporter of numerous Plymouth-area nonprofits, including the Plymouth District Library and Plymouth Historical Society, and was also a classic car enthusiast.
