The World of Kidtropolis at 5940 No. 2 Road provides 18,000 square feet of indoor play space for Metro Vancouver families during the rainy season and beyond

The World of Kidtropolis, an indoor playground and interactive pretend city in Richmond, has reached its ninth year of operation serving families across Metro Vancouver since opening in 2016. The 18,000-square-foot facility at 5940 No. 2 Road provides year-round indoor play options for children ages three to ten years old. As the region’s rainy season begins in October each year, the centre continues to function as a consistent indoor recreation destination when outdoor activities become less accessible during the wetter months that run from October through early spring each year. The facility occupies a dedicated commercial space in Richmond, offering families in the area a reliable option for active children’s entertainment regardless of weather conditions, with both unstructured play time and organized activities available on a regular basis.

The facility is designed around a pretend-play education philosophy, with a miniature town setting that includes a police station, grocery store, and theatre where children engage in role-play activities that build social and communication skills. Beyond its open play areas and soft-play jungle gym featuring slides and climbing structures, Kidtropolis offers structured programming including a Nerf Night Out program for children ages eight and older that runs in the evening hours, toddler classes held in partnership with local educators, Kids Camp programs offered during school breaks throughout the year, sleepover events for groups such as Girl Guides and Scouts, and field trip programming designed for elementary-age school groups visiting the centre. An on-site cafe provides food and beverage options for families spending extended time at the facility.

“We see a consistent flow of families coming in from across the Lower Mainland, and the start of the rainy season typically brings in more visitors looking for indoor play options,” said a company representative at Kidtropolis. “Our model is built around giving children a place to stay active and use their imagination regardless of the weather outside, and the range of activities we offer means there are options for different ages and interests throughout the year.”

The facility offers birthday party packages that accommodate groups of 8 to 28 children, with options ranging from basic room rentals to all-inclusive celebrations that include food service, decorations, and a dedicated party host to manage setup and cleanup. Kidtropolis has received local recognition including awards from Richmond News for its family programming and indoor play offerings. The centre operates on a drop-in general admission model for regular visits, allowing families to arrive during their preferred time window and stay until closing, with walk-in visitors accepted subject to capacity availability on any given day.

The facility’s nine-year presence in Richmond places it among established indoor play destinations in the Lower Mainland. With its combination of open play areas, party services, camps, community partnerships, and daily drop-in programming, the centre provides multiple ways for families to engage with indoor recreation throughout the year across different age groups and interests. As the rainy season extends through early spring, the facility continues to serve as a year-round resource for families with young children across the region, offering dependable options for both regular visits and special events regardless of the weather outside.
