LAS VEGAS, NV, UNITED STATES, September 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Noblie Custom Knives has introduced a new group of Noblie-made folding knives built around Dragonskin Damascus blades forged by South African master bladesmith Bertie Rietveld.
The release pairs Rietveld’s signature Dragonskin Damascus with Noblie’s own collector-folder construction, including crystallized titanium handles, anodized color work, premium pocket-knife mechanics, and exact-piece presentation for U.S. collectors.
Bertie Rietveld is one of the most respected Damascus makers in the international custom knife field. He began making knives in 1979, started forging Damascus in 1991, and became the first knifemaker in South Africa to produce stainless Damascus. In 2019, he was voted in as a full member of the Art Knife Invitational, the selective Las Vegas exhibition known for bringing together a small group of leading custom knifemakers.
Rietveld’s Dragonskin Damascus, developed as one of his signature patterns, is known for its dense, scale-like visual structure and labor-intensive production. The pattern has become recognizable among Damascus collectors because it is not a generic etched surface or decorative finish. It is forged into the blade material itself, giving the steel both visual identity and maker provenance.
The new Noblie folders are not presented as Rietveld sole-authorship knives. Instead, they are Noblie-made collector folders built with Dragonskin Damascus blades forged by Rietveld. This distinction is important for collectors: the blade material carries the provenance of a known Damascus master, while the completed folding knife reflects Noblie’s own design, handle construction, finishing, and assembly.
Current Noblie Dragonskin Damascus folders combine patterned blades with crystallized titanium handle scales, titanium clips, flipper opening systems, ball-bearing or ceramic-bearing pivots, and frame-lock or liner-lock construction depending on the model. Several examples list blade hardness around 62 HRC, placing them in the performance range expected from premium collector folders while preserving the visual role of the Damascus pattern.
The handle material is a defining part of the project. Noblie uses crystallized titanium to create a textured, light-reactive metallic surface with visible crystalline grain. The handles are then finished and anodized in colors selected to complement the Dragonskin blade pattern, including blue, green, red, purple, and multicolor effects depending on the individual piece.
“Bertie Rietveld’s Dragonskin Damascus has a provenance that serious collectors immediately recognize,” said Aleks Nemtcev of Noblie Custom Knives. “When we build a folder around that blade material, the rest of the knife has to support it. The titanium frame, lock, clip, pivot system, anodizing, and overall geometry all need to respect the blade rather than compete with it.”
The release reflects a broader collector-market interest in knives with documented material stories. Premium buyers increasingly look for named makers, recognizable Damascus patterns, limited availability, exact-piece photography, and construction details before purchasing. Noblie said the Dragonskin Damascus folders were developed for that audience: collectors who want a knife that can be understood through both design and material provenance.
Depending on the individual piece, packaging may include a certificate of authenticity, protective packaging, white cotton gloves, and a wooden presentation box. Because Dragonskin Damascus is produced in modest quantities and each folder is made in limited numbers, availability may vary by blade stock, handle finish, and production schedule.
Noblie said additional Dragonskin Damascus folders may be released as material becomes available. Custom requests may be considered depending on blade availability, design requirements, handle material, and production capacity.
