Indianapolis, IN – An underutilized, overgrown lot in the heart of Indianapolis’ Fountain Square neighborhood has been transformed into a vibrant community garden and pocket park, thanks to the efforts of local residents and the Fountain Square Neighborhood Association.
The project, situated at the intersection of Leonard Street and Virginia Avenue, saw dedicated volunteers tackle the neglected space. Their work included a comprehensive cleanup, the construction of new benches, the addition of artistic painted elements, and the planting of a variety of vegetables and native flowers.
Funding for the revitalization was primarily provided by an $80,000 grant from the city’s Cultural Districts Fund. Further support for the initiative came from Southeast Neighborhood Development and a generous donation of trees from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
